Juan Lopez Romera

Juan Lopez was born in Alicante, Spain and studied tuba in the Alicante Conservatory of Music and CNR of Perpignan (France), with professors Juan Palacios and Mel Culbertson as well as David Zambon, Walter Stormont, Heiko Triebener.

As a player, Juan was part of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain, and he has collaborated with prestigious orchestras from Spain and Italy such as the Basque National Orchestra (Spain), Teatro San Carlo di Napoli (Italy), Teatro Dell ‘Opera di Roma (Italy), Baroque orchestra Vespres d’Arnadi (Spain), and under directors including R. Muti, D. Boyd, G. Vargas, Yves Abel, Antonino Fogliani, Pinchas Steimberg, George Pehlivanian, David Coleman, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Daniel Oren, Marzio Conti, among others.

He has been visiting professor of tuba and breathing techniques in national and international courses and masterclasses such as Musical Courses August (Alfaz del Pi) and Sardegna Brass Festival in collaboration with Italian Brass Week.

Juan Lopez is the founder of and serpent player in Lucentum XVI, a performance group specializing in Renaissance and early Baroque. He also is luthier and owner of Serpentones Lopez. He carried out the study of the serpents of the Museum of Music in Barcelona, writing the article “The serpent in the Iberain Peninsula” and often is invited for conferences about the serpent in institutions such as the Conservatory of Music Oscar Espla in Alicante and the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya (ESMUC) of Barcelona for the Festival AETYB 2014.
