Patrick Geren

Patrick Geren (b.1988, Georgia) holds a Bachelors in Music Education, with an additional emphasis in Euphonium Performance, from Illinois State University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Euphonium Performance from the University of Georgia. His primary teachers include Andy Rummel, Dr. Mark Babbitt and David Zerkel.

While at Illinois State, Patrick was a consecutive finalist in both the Band Concerto Competition (2012 First Runner-Up) and the Concerto-Aria Competition (first euphonium in ISU history). He served as Principal Euphonium in the ISU Wind Symphony (directed by Dr. Stephen K. Steele) from August 2009 – December 2012. During that time the ensemble premiered many new works for wind ensemble and recorded five CDs of new works by composers such as David Maslanka and Carlos Franzetti. Patrick was also a founding member of the Wind Symphony Tuba-Euph Quartet.

Patrick has written several arrangements for chamber ensemble and solo settings. Many of his chamber ensemble arrangements were written and performed by the ISU Tuba-Euph Studio. Most recently he has had solo arrangements performed and/or recorded by Dr. Aaron Tindall, Dr. Benjamin Pierce and Steven Mead.

He has experienced a high level of involvement in the Drum Corps International activity both as a member and a teacher. He was as a member and soloist with the Bluecoats (2006-2010), on brass staff with the Blue Stars (2011) and is currently with the Santa Clara Vanguard. He was also a member of the prestigious WGI ensemble, Music City Mystique (2009).

Patrick is a member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association.
