Description

In the center of Florida State’s Campus you will find Fritz White’s 2003 bronze statue, “Unconquered.”  It was designed to capture the indomitable spirit of the Seminole people and those who have adopted that spirit for their university. “Invictus” was written in 2023 for the Renegade 8, Florida State University’s flagship tuba-euphonium ensemble. The work is a symbol of gratitude and dedicated to the students, faculty, and FSU community for their warm welcome and hospitality. The pentatonicism found throughout the work is based on the FSU war chant, a ubiquitous theme heard at FSU sporting events. This short, uptempo work is meant to capture the loyalty and love current and former FSU alums share for their alma mater.
