John Hadden

John Hadden has produced pieces that center around his main instrument: the tuba. In addition to Quirks, recent works include A Simple Serenade for either tuba or euphonium, and piano; and Something Old, Something New: Ten Duets for Two Tubas, is a set of duets partly based on famous orchestral excerpts. Commissioned by members of the Rampello Downtown Partnership School (Tampa, FL) to write a piece for solo tuba and wind ensemble called Pirate Memories, John was featured soloist at its premiere in April 2015. Upcoming works include a piece for brass quintet titled Galacidalacidesoxiribunucleicacid, based on the famous Salvador Dalí canvas housed at the Salvador Dalí museum in St. Petersburg, FL.

As a performer, John won 1st place at the 2013 Southeast Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference Mock Orchestral Audition and 2nd place in the Young Artist Solo Competition. Since then, he has won both the Big Arts Classical Music Scholarship Competition and the 2015 Imperial Symphony Orchestra (Lakeland) Young Artist Competition and has received an honorable mention at the Justine Lebaron Young Artist Competition.

As of this writing, John is completing his undergraduate studies in tuba performance at the University of South Florida, where he is a student of Jay Hunsberger. He will be continuing his studies at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of Dan Perantoni.
