Description

First published in 1732-33, this set of fantasias is not only one of Telemann’s most celebrated creations, but undoubtedly amongst the finest wind instrument works of the Baroque era. Although conceived and still performable as a complete cycle, progressing roughly stepwise from A major to G minor, each fantasia stands apart in its own right, covering all conceivable styles from the slowest Largo to the fastest Presto, with even several seemingly impossible fugues added into the mix. Originally written for the flute, transcriptions have appeared for many instruments over the years with each arranger adding their own personal touch; however, this edition for tuba is taken directly from the composer’s manuscript, allowing the performer maximum freedom of expression and interpretation of this fascinating work.
