Description

Arranger Derek Fenstermacher says, “William Bolcom is a musically diverse composer and performer. His compositions include cabaret songs, concertos, sonatas, operas, and symphonies, and in 1988 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his Twelve New Etudes for piano. The Serpent’s Kiss was originally written for piano solo, and then arranged by Derek Fenstermacher for the Boreas Quartet. The work is from a cycle of four Ragtime-inspired piano pieces entitled The Garden of Eden, which Bolcom composed in1969. Along with the syncopated ragtime character, the music takes a few twists incorporating different styles.”
