Description
From the composer:
One thing humans all have in common is that one day we will all take our very last breath of life. This piece explores the entire range of emotions we might experience as we take this last breath and reflect on our lives, from revelation in our most joyous memories to resignation to our ultimate fate.
As a member of the Atlanta Trombone Ensemble, I specifically composed this piece to both highlight the group’s strengths while challenging the group’s weaknesses. I kept a fairly basic chord structure for clarity, but incorporated a few meter and tempo changes. The melodic material is passed around among all parts, so everyone gets a moment in the spotlight. A lovely cascading figure at the end between all parts highlights the group as a whole rather than featuring any individual parts.
I am honored to have composed this for the Atlanta Trombone Ensemble.
