The Sonata for Tuba and Piano is a fresh addition to the repertoire. The work features a sophisticated blend of jazz harmonies, virtuoso passages and contrapuntal writing. Over its three movements the tuba sonata is an accessible kaleidoscope of musical moods. The work opens with a fresh moderato movement, followed by a touching and sensitive slow fantasia movement that allows for plenty of expressivity, and finishes with an up tempo gigue that features virtuoso cadenzas and imitative writing. The Sonata has been performed by world-class performers such as Gene Pokorny, and was chosen as a required jury piece for the international low brass competition in 2014.
