Description
The Slide Advantage was commissioned and is dedicated to the late Ray Conklin. A wonderful father, husband, grandfather, teacher, mentor, colleague and friend. The title of the work was stolen from the name Mr. Conklin chose for his group of select, elite trombonists at Murray State, the Slide Advantage. Under Mr. Conklin’s tutelage the ensemble toured the world and recorded on several occasions. The premier performance of Slide Advantage was given by the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Trombone Choir at the 2016 Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio, TX. The ensemble was led by my former colleague, grill-master, and good friend Oscar Diaz, to whom I’d also like to offer a dedication.
