Description
First performance 11th March 1867, Paris (Opera)
Don Carlos’ third act has an orchestral prelude built on the aria “Io la vidi” of the first act.
The piece is not a simple transcription of that aria, but a theme development that creates a state of mind full of romantic feelings, increased by the mysterious and magical sounds of brass ensemble:
3 Trumpets, Horn, 2 Trombones and Tuba
