Description
Mixed Nuts (another of my crazy titles) was written in 2011 for a USC Tuba Faculty recital that Norm Pearson, Doug Tornquist and I played. The 4:30 minute piece is for three tubas and piano. The intro section jumps all over the place. Each tuba part covers a wide range and there is frequent interplay with the piano. That leads into a slow, pretty interlude before an up-tempo, odd-meter section between all four musicians. Then there is Scherzo-like section that begins as a waltz that leads to an acerating ending – and followed by a brief exciting “Hollywood” style ending.
Lot’s of Fun!
