The title Gloria Gorda y Grande simply refers to the high quality brand cigars, La Gloria Cubana, that a fellow musician friend introduced me to several years ago. The main theme of the piece is a two-beat jazz/blues motif that is undoubtedly influenced by the compositional style of the great Thelonius Monk. Subsequent themes explore a whole tone scale and a couple twelve-tone rows.
A drum set accompaniment can be added by having the player follow/interpret the score. Ideas can be taken from the studio recording of the piece that can be found on all online digital music platforms.
