Description
“When I am laid in earth”, or Dido’s Lament, is from Henry Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas. It is an extremely well-known aria that is used in many music history and theory text books as an example of basso ostinato. The lament is sung in the opera as Dido prepares for her death.
