Brian Viliunas

Brian Viliunas is Assistant Professor of Music at Samford University, where his duties include teaching clarinet, directing the orchestra, and other music classes. As a clarinetist, Brian performs Principal Clarinet with the Arizona Opera and was previously principal clarinetist with the Phoenix opera. He has performed at the Spoleto Fesitval, and was principal clarinet for the Youth Orchestra of the Americas on eight international tours, including the DVD recorded performance of Verdi’s requiem. He gives numerous recitals, solo performances, and chamber performances each year. His teachers include Russ Dagon, Michael Webster, and Robert Spring. He began conducting studies during his undergraduate program with Mallory Thompson, and received additional training while living in Norway as a Fulbright Scholar, working with Harald Eikås. He was the founder and director of the Sustainable Symphony, a group that believes the Arts are one of Humanity’s most enduring endeavors, and strives to make the Arts more relevant in today’s society. His degrees are from Northwestern University, Rice University, and Arizona State University.
