Wendy Wan-Ki Lee is Professor of Theory and Composition at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Secrets of the Paper Tiger is inspired by the ancient Chinese phrase, zhi laohu. The English translation, “paper tiger,” refers to something or someone outwardly ferocious but quite harmless, in reality. The piece was commissioned by Benjamin Pierce and received its premiere at the ITEC 2008 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
